Christmas Pictures

Christmas Pictures... seriously the BANE of my existence.  My Mom started this 'wonderful' tradition when we were born to do family pictures every year, and send them out to their family and friends.  I thought that was what everyone did, so imagine my surprise when I married Travis who had NEVER done anything like that....
Talk about a struggle to 'mesh' traditions once we got married! We started with just pictures of us, or the pets, but the last few years, we've done more 'family ones....

 2008
Seriously- how awkward does Travis look?
2009- Better, except it's blurry... nice!

Well, since we actually got nice pictures done this year, I figured we'd better 'step it up' in the card category (ie- something beyond the store down the street where I can buy milk, get my oil changed, and pick up some potting soil!)

I've had a friend who uses shutterfly.com for everything! She has three kids, so we are constantly getting cute pictures of them that she ordered from there.  I decided to check it out.  First I looked at these cards.  They have some gorgeous designs, but Travis 'gently' reminded him that I took him the day after Christmas to go buy a whole bunch of cards for this year (a tradition- they're half off!), so I looked for something that I could insert into the cards I had bought.

This one caught my eye, because it's so sophicated.

Depending on how many pictures we love from our photo shoot, this is also a very close second.

This year is a New Mexico Christmas (we switch off every year between his parents and mine), and my parents always throw a huge party the years we go back.  It's always a good time, and nice to see everyone that I grew up with (from church and our neighborhood).  This year my step daughter is coming with us, so it's going to be an even bigger celebration!  I've forwarded this card to them, because it would be perfect (their last name even starts with a W!)

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if we have several great photos, or just a singular one to know which one we're going to send out... (I love having all the digital rights from our photographer!)

Now- to start working on the damn letter that goes with it.... maybe I should just print out my blog address and they can come see our life... but it might be to 'unfiltered' for most!

  1. I love the first one!

My husband's family does all the picture stuff and it caught me a bit by surprise, too.

  2. I love the idea of attaching your blog address even tho it's a joke..... Sometimes repeating the same things OVER AND OVER again get to be hard. :) J

  3. Growing up my family always had photos taken at the family Thanksgiving since we were always dressed up for dinner at my grandparents house. They were always taken in the same place, so it's fun to look back at them to compare. My husband's family doesn't do the dressing up or picture thing, but it's not really that big a deal for me to want to continue it.

Of course, this year I will be sending a photo card for Christmas - guess I better get that session scheduled!
